This is pertaining to today's advent calender prizes (Count von Roo Stocking & Vampiric Christmas Cookies), I must say I was very confused.
the rarity index was original 300 which is off the charts looking at any game guide.
needless to say I started stocking up because I thought this was the newest rarity index and these there the two first items lol.

I guess it is just used to prevent complications with the shop wizard? I have no idea it was really interesting to see though, if anyone can enlightened me it would be much appreciated :)

Once you get above r100, you can't really assume that the higher the rarity, the higher the price/value.
Rarity 300 is probably used for private testing/keeping things secret until they're released, since you can't find them in advance on the shop wizard.
It takes TNT awhile to fix them so that they're r101.
If you use the IDB's advanced search and search item notes, you'll see that there used to be many more r300 items.
